Hey, I am Kabelo Michael Letlala
Life. Culture. Connection. Your Journey Starts Here.
Whether you're visiting South Africa for the first time or rediscovering it through a new lens, you're in the right place. We offer more than tours we offer authentic journeys through culture, language, music, and history. Every itinerary is personal, every route is curated, and every traveler is welcomed like family.
What i Offer
At Bophelo Le Maeto Tours, I don’t just offer guided trips I create immersive cultural journeys. Each experience is personally curated to reflect the true soul of South Africa its people, its music, its landscapes, and its layered stories.
I’m especially passionate about South Africa’s music scene, particularly Jazz and the modern genre Amapiano, which reflects the youth culture and creative pulse of urban South Africa. On my tours, you don’t just hear about these movements, you feel them. Tourism is more than travel. It’s a dialogue between cultures. And for me, it’s a calling.
About Me
Founder & Director of Bophelo Le Maeto Tours
Hello! I’m Michael Letlala, founder and director of Bophelo Le Maeto Tours – which means “Life and Journey Tours” in Sesotho. I am a proud South African, born at Manapo General Hospital in Phuthaditjhaba, Free State Province. Though I’ve moved around a lot, places like Rietz, Bloemfontein, QwaQwa, Botshabelo, Johannesburg, and Stanford are more than just dots on the map — they’re chapters in my life story and windows into South Africa’s incredible cultural diversity.
Raised in towns and cities rich with Pan-African history, I’ve always had a deep love for our collective heritage. These experiences inspired me to create a tourism company that doesn’t just guide people through destinations, but also through the heart of South Africa’s multicultural identity.
My roots go deep — I come from a royal lineage on my father’s side, originally from Lesotho. My love for travel began at a young age, journeying across South Africa with my mother. As an adult, I expanded my travels across Africa and into Europe, gaining new perspectives that now shape the way I guide others.
Today, I live with my wife (we married in 2013) and our child, born in 2016. While I’ve seen many beautiful places, Knysna in the Western Cape remains my favorite local escape — for its untouched lagoons, islands, and long hiking trails through its scenic mountains.
With the ability to speak 9 of South Africa’s 11 official languages, I connect authentically with people across regions and cultures. Language, I believe, is not just a tool — it’s a bridge. That belief is what drives me to share South Africa’s diverse stories with every traveler I meet.
Professional
My Work in Tourism
Exploring South Africa with Purpose
As a registered tourist guide and founder of Bophelo Le Maeto Tours, I specialize in curating deeply immersive experiences that reflect the real South Africa — not just what’s seen in brochures, but the vibrant, living cultures behind the landmarks.
Growing up in QwaQwa, I witnessed the complex historical layers of South African life. In fact, QwaQwa was once a self-governing homeland under Chief Minister Kenneth Mopeli. After 1994, it was reintegrated into the Free State Province as part of a newly democratic South Africa. This region’s story is South Africa’s story — one of change, resilience, and hope.
My work as a tourist guide is grounded in storytelling, language, and community. From the fashion-forward streets of Cape Town’s Long Street, to the jazz-filled air of Johannesburg, and the multilingual energy of local townships, I create tours that connect people to authentic experiences. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning traveler, I tailor each journey to your interests.
